Een lach, een spel, een sprong, een moment van evenwicht: haar bronzen houden vast wat normaal veel te snel voorbijgaat.

 

Ze werkte meer dan tien jaar als grafisch vormgever in de reclamewereld in Brussel en verliet dat beroep in 1987 om zich volledig aan de kunst te wijden. Eerst olieverf, daarna klei en brons, die haar echte taal werden.

 

Vandaag verdeelt ze haar tijd tussen Brussel en Forcalquier, in de Haute-Provence, waar haar atelier staat.

 

 Haar beelden bestaan van klein formaat tot semi-monumentaal werk, voor een interieur zowel als voor een tuin.

Béatrice COLS

 

Béatrice Cols studeerde grafische kunsten aan Sint-Lucas in Brussel en werkte ruim tien jaar in de reclame, tot ze in 1987 alles achterliet om zich aan het creëren te wijden. Ze begon met olieverfschilderen en verkende er licht, kleur en beweging. Daarna kwam de klei, en daarmee de beeldhouwkunst: dat zou haar taal worden.

 

Sindsdien heeft ze nog maar één onderwerp: het kind. Waar velen zich tevredenstellen met het afbeelden van kinderen, vat zij hun energie en hun houdingen — een bungelend been, een gekanteld hoofd, twee vriendjes die een geheim delen. Haar titels zeggen het met een lichte toets: "Cache-Cache", "Attends-moi", "Conciliabule", "Inséparables". Elk beeld is tegelijk intiem en universeel.

 

Haar bronzen worden gegoten volgens de verlorenwasmethode, in oplagen van maximaal twaalf: acht exemplaren en vier kunstenaarsproeven. Haar patina's, in natuurlijke tinten van aarde en klei, geven haar figuren een zachtheid die het boetseerwerk verlengt.

 

Verschillende Belgische steden plaatsten haar beelden in de openbare ruimte, waar haar bronzen kinderen deel zijn gaan uitmaken van het dagelijkse leven.

 

De Provence neemt een bijzondere plaats in haar parcours in. In 2004 opende ze in Forcalquier Galerie Passere, een tentoonstellingsruimte en ontmoetingsplek voor kunstenaars. In 2015 richtte ze er een nieuw atelier in, onder de citadel, met uitzicht op de Luberon en de Alpen. Ze citeert graag Jacques Brel: "Talent bestaat niet. Talent is iets willen doen."

 

Art Thema begeleidt Béatrice Cols al bijna tien jaar en ontwikkelt haar werk in Zuid-Frankrijk, onder meer met galerie Cécile Chiorino. Recente tentoonstellingen:
