Rebecca de Cachard French, b. 1969
Each work is a trace of life. A heartbeat. A pulse.
Rebecca de Cachard is a painter guided by colour, light and movement. After nearly twenty years creating unique mosaics alongside architects and interior designers — work honoured in 1999 with the Prix d'honneur of the Fondation de France — she returned to her first love, painting. Her lyrical abstraction, in the lineage of Hartung, Mitchell and Pollock, is painted standing up, with her whole body: visceral, luminous and alive.
Rebecca does not paint to please; she paints to stay standing.
Rebecca de Cachard is a painter guided by colour, light and movement. From an early age, creating became an essential language for her, a way of inhabiting the world and feeling it deeply.
The daughter of writer Françoise Lefèvre and painter Raya Sorkine, she grew up in a creative atmosphere, although her own path took shape far from her parents' models. After a foray into theatre at the Dijon conservatory, she turned to her first passion: painting.
Yet it was through mosaic that she first made her mark, fascinated by flashes of light and the richness of materials: glass enamels, gold and silver tesserae, mother-of-pearl, shards of mirror. For nearly twenty years she worked with architects and interior designers to create unique decorative works, developing an intimate relationship with material and colour. In 1999 she received the Prix d'honneur of the Fondation de France for her creations.
She then returned to painting. After a period of figurative exploration, abstraction gradually became self-evident, and her work moved towards lyrical abstract expressionism, where gesture, colour and intuition intertwine. She freely places herself in the lineage of Hans Hartung, Georges Mathieu, Jackson Pollock, Joan Mitchell and Sam Francis, not to repeat them, but to draw on the momentum, freedom and intensity of the gesture.
Rebecca paints standing up, in motion, with all her energy: her body becomes an instrument. Her painting is both visceral and airy, grounded and ascending. Each canvas is a birth, shaped by life and by matter, a work that speaks of chaos, transformation and vital energy.
Each work is a trace of life. A heartbeat. A pulse.
