Inspired by childhood memories of playful circus games imagined among cousins, the sculpture captures a moment of freedom, trust and shared discovery rather than performance or constraint. Far from any trained spectacle, these bears interact naturally in a spontaneous and tender scene that celebrates family bonds and imagination.
The vertical composition creates a lively sense of movement while emphasizing balance and complicity between the animals. Finished with a warm brown patina enriched by lighter undertones, the sculpture highlights the expressive modelling and textured surfaces characteristic of Sophie Verger’s distinctive approach to contemporary animal sculpture.
Both narrative and emotionally accessible, Ours et deux oursons is especially appreciated by collectors seeking poetic figurative animal bronzes and is particularly suitable as a first acquisition within a contemporary sculpture collection.
