EN : With Ours chaman au tambour (Shaman Bear with Drum), created in 2023, Sophie Verger turns around an old photograph of a Central Asian shaman dressed in a bear skin, and a memorable scene from the western True Grit. Here, the bear becomes the shaman: standing on one leg, it dances while beating its drum, a necklace of fish around its neck, to summon the spirit of the river and an abundant catch.

Part of the “Bears and Fish” series, this bronze sculpture (48 x 32 x 24 cm) plays on the contrast between the bear’s warm brown patina and the fish patinated with iron nitrate. A spectacular work, full of movement and mystery.
