EN : With La Barque sacrée (The Sacred Boat), created in 2019 for the exhibition “Bêtes à musée”, Sophie Verger invites us on a journey through space and time. Five elephants, stacked up and perched on their trunks, sail down the Nile aboard a crocodile-shaped boat, evoking the sacred barques of ancient Egypt.
Its brown patina with lighter undertones and its brown-black brass mount give this bronze sculpture (55 x 60 x 20 cm) great elegance. One edition has joined the collection of the Powerlong Art Museum in Shanghai.
Provenance
It is a very old story, perhaps a myth, perhaps not, when the earth was a garden where they lived in peace, an era of harmony and of games: the childhood of the world. It was a time when the children of men learned to speak the language of the seal, even before the forces of nature incarnates themselves sometimes in the hippopotamus, sometimes in the crocodile.Exhibitions
