“Le Violoncelliste Assis” is a striking bronze sculpture by Belgian artist Jacques Van den Abeele (1960–2023), whose work is celebrated for its expressive tension and poetic treatment of the human figure.

Here, the musician’s body and instrument merge into one flowing, textured form, where the erosion and openings in the bronze reveal an inner architecture — a visual metaphor for vulnerability, rhythm and the emotional weight of performance.

Seated on a wooden stool, the cellist carries a quiet intensity: the gesture is minimal yet deeply evocative, capturing the intimate moment where sound begins before it is heard. Van den Abeele’s signature sculptural language — elongated limbs, textured surfaces, and a balance between presence and absence — gives the piece a powerful sense of movement and introspection.

Both a homage to music and a study of the human condition, Le Violoncelliste Assis is one of the artist’s most emblematic works, sought after by collectors who appreciate expressive figurative sculpture in bronze.
