Laurent PONS French, b. 1969
"I photograph cities the way I remember dreams: in flashes of light, fragments of movement and a sense of suspended time. My work does not seek to document reality, but to reveal the stories it hides — the atmosphere, the emotion, the invisible vibration that turns a moment into a scene."
Starships above the rooftops of Paris, an imperial walker at the turn of an avenue, at night, in the mist. Laurent Pons's images are so convincing that you start to doubt what you are seeing.
A professional photographer and an outstanding graphic artist, he brings together his two passions in every work: city photography and the Star Wars universe, of which he is a dedicated collector.
The result is far more than a nod to pop culture. These are true cinematic tableaux, with rare precision and atmosphere, that speak as much to photography lovers as to those who grew up with the saga.
Born in 1969 in Nevers, Laurent Pons built his career in photography and art direction, at the heart of the film world and of celebrity photography. For years, he photographed the great figures of French cinema and entertainment. From this he kept a sharp sense of light, staging and images that tell a story.
Alongside, he has developed a personal body of work that he describes as "photographiste", at the crossroads of photography and graphic design. His method is extremely demanding. He first photographs the city: Paris at night, its monuments, its streets in the mist, but also Marseille, La Ciotat or Dubai. He then photographs selected pieces from his collection of Star Wars objects. Finally, through meticulous graphic work, he brings them into the landscape: light, shadows, reflections and grain are reworked one by one, until fiction merges with reality. Produced in very high resolution, his images are both intimate and spectacular: you can step close to discover every detail, or view them from afar like a film scene.
The works are printed by one of Europe's finest fine art printers, in Germany, and issued in editions of only 2 or 3 depending on the work.
In 2019, his Paris series was the subject of an exhibition, "L'avenue des étoiles", at Bercy Village in Paris, featuring some thirty works.
Laurent Pons joined Art Thema in 2026. He brings a resolutely contemporary eye to the gallery, alongside the sculptors who shape its identity.
