Almost Dinner Time by Lieven d'haese presents a solitary figure reclining in a long, narrow bronze boat, elevated on a slender pedestal. Suspended between stillness and movement, the sculpture evokes a quiet moment of transition — a pause before arrival.

The boat motif refers to the artist’s childhood memories of Kingabwa, a riverside district along the Congo River, where shipyards and waterways shaped his early imagination. Rather than depicting travel itself, the sculpture captures the emotional space between departure and return — a reflective threshold shaped by memory, time, and distance.

With its elongated proportions and delicate balance, the work conveys both fragility and calm determination. Typical of Lieven d’haese’s poetic sculptural language, the figure appears timeless and universal, suggesting anticipation, recollection, and the intimate rhythm of everyday life suspended in bronze.
