An Old Childhood Dream
A Travel in African Rhythms...
The bronze sculptures of Belgian artist Lieven D’Haese capture the poetry of human emotion and movement. His figures — men and children of undefined age — seem to emerge from forgotten stories, carrying within them African rhythms, harmony, and sensitivity. Each piece embodies a delicate balance between hope and wisdom, strength and fragility, revealing the artist’s deep connection to humanity.
Every sculpture by Lieven D’Haese is unique, handcrafted with care from the initial wax model to the final bronze casting. The artist personally finishes each piece, ensuring a one-of-a-kind patina and texture that reflect his distinctive signature.
Blending figurative art, timeless storytelling, and masterful craftsmanship, Lieven D’Haese offers a body of work that speaks to art collectors, contemporary sculpture lovers, and admirers of African-inspired aesthetics around the world.

Lieven D’Haese comes from a family of sculptors and musicians, including Reinhoud (Cobra movement) and Roel D’Haese. He studied painting and graphic arts at the Saint-Luke Institute in Brussels and Ghent, as well as at the Art School in Aalst.
In Roland Monteyne’s studio, Lieven D’Haese fulfilled a lifelong dream — casting bronze sculptures. Yet his background as a graphic artist remains visible in his work. His bronzes achieve a refined balance between light and shadow, mass and space. Even within their volumes, the chiaroscuro of lines and surfaces reflects his precise and poetic hand.
Notable acquisition:
“King of Kingabwa” (2 meters long), acquired by the City of Kruibeke, Belgium.
His figures — often men or children — evoke humanity, fragility, and hope. They carry echoes of Africa and universal emotion, bridging the boundaries between memory and dream.
Lieven D’Haese is represented by Art Thema Gallery in Belgium and France for over ten years. His works have been exhibited widely throughout Europe and are part of numerous private and public collections.
